What are we looking for

As YUX scales its AI and Machine Learning initiatives across the continent, we are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Data Analyst. This role is foundational to our AI development process. You will be responsible for ensuring that the data powering our models is clean, structured, and accurately annotated. If you are passionate about how high-quality data impacts AI outcomes in African contexts, this is the role for you.

Your missions

Data Cleaning & Preprocessing: Take raw datasets (text, audio, or images) and transform them into clean, usable formats. This includes handling missing values, removing duplicates, and normalizing data to ensure high-quality inputs for our AI models.

Support Data Annotation Pipelines: Assist in the design and management of annotation workflows. You will help define labeling guidelines and ensure that annotators (human-in-the-loop) are producing consistent, high-quality labels.

Quality Assurance (QA): Perform regular audits of annotated data to identify biases or errors. You will play a key role in maintaining the "ground truth" that trains our machine learning algorithms.

Data Analysis & Visualization: Analyze dataset characteristics to provide insights to our Research and AI teams. You will create simple dashboards or reports to track the progress and quality of our data pipelines.

Internal Collaboration: Work closely with our AI Engineers and Design Researchers to understand the specific data requirements for different sectors like Health, Agriculture, and Financial Inclusion.

Qualifications

  • Completed a degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets is a must. Basic knowledge of Python (Pandas, NumPy) or SQL for data manipulation is highly preferred.
  • An obsession with data quality and the ability to spot patterns or inconsistencies that others might miss.
  • A genuine curiosity about how Artificial Intelligence can be used for social good in Africa and how it intersects with Human-Centered Design.
  • Fluent in English and Kinyarwanda (written and spoken). Fluency in French is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Proactive, eager to learn, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, pan-African startup environment.

Other stuff

  • Contract : Full-time contract
  • Women candidates are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Total work flexibility and autonomy: for the first two months, you have to come to the office 5 days a week. After that, you have the opportunity to work remotely for 1 to 2 days a week.
  • We offer competitive salaries plus great, non-material benefits - read more about it here - however we’re still a self-funded African SME, so don’t apply if you're still somewhat attracted by big corporate or NGO money, cars and suits!.
